The wind picked up to 20-30mph south-westerlies, which aren't exactly the most preferable conditions as far as bird migration is concerned. However' it wasn't a quiet day by any means, 265 Meadow Pipits throughout the day, most of which were on the South End, and three Spotted Flycatchers were good to see. But the highlights included two new species for the year, two Black-tailed Godwits off the South End and a Long-eared Owl in Cristin Withy made their way onto the list!

A walk around the coastline in the morning to look for seal pups yielded two new ones, one of which must only have been hours old and was suckling at the fatty milk provided by the mother. It seems as though the pupping season is really about to kick off now!

Waders were around the island in better numbers today with one Dunlin, 51 Curlews, two Redshanks, one Greenshank, 19 Turnstones and 32 Oystercatchers

A short seawatch in the morning was pretty good for variety, yet another Long-tailed Skua was seen, this time an adult! Also recorded were: four Arctic Skuas, four Great Skuas and small numbers Gannets, Kittiwakes, Manx Shearwaters and Auks.

Totals today included: one Lesser Redpoll, 82 Linnets, 12 Goldfinches, 18 Choughs, four Willow Warblers, one Whitethroat and 123 White Wagtails.
