Today was rather grim in terms of weather, it was foggy and cloudy throughout, and drizzle moved in in the afternoon.
This morning, George headed up to Nant to see if the fog had brought any birds in overnight, there were a few more Chiffchaffs, Goldcrests and Robins around than usual, with the latter having its highest count of the autumn today - 33. Overhead, Siskins and Grey Wagtails were moving in reasonable numbers, with Grey Wagtails also having their highest count of the autumn - 35; perhaps the low cloud base made passage of this species more visible today.
Over at Ty Pellaf, Steve was having a good morning with a Spotted Flycatcher, a Pied Flycatcher and two Wrynecks being the standout highlights.
Once the morning's birding was done, it was time to crack on with the Heligoland Trap. I'm sure I can speak for everyone in saying that it's a relief that it is finally functional! Now, it is just a matter of extending the sides and the top to increase the catching area, but for now at least it can be used.
Other birds of note were: two Grey Herons, four Common Scoters, one Kestrel, one Peregrine, 60 Swallows, 12 House Martins, 72 White Wagtails, seven Blackcaps, 16 Willow Warblers, five Goldcrests, one Spotted Flycatcher and one Pied Flycatcher.
