Stuart took advantage of another calm morning and opened the nets in the Withies before the weather becomes more unsettled later in the week. Today was overcast but warm and everywhere except the Wetlands is looking dry and scorched.

It was a good ringing session with the highlights being a very newly fledged Blackcap, three juvenile Great Tits, a juvenile Swallow and eight Linnets

There was also a small flock of nine Collared Doves in the Withies that were regularly flying back and forth between Ty Pellaf. Willow Warbler numbers are steadily increasing with 21 across the island. Wader passage is also on the up with one Dunlin, three Whimbrels, 27 Curlews, six Redshanks, three Common Sandpipers and 21 Turnstones.

Whilst completing log this evening a family of three Harbour Porpoise headed north off the West Coast. It was easy to see the mother and calf coming up at the same time.

Birds today: two Gannets, one Grey Heron, one Dunlin, three Whimbrels, 27 Curlews, six Redshanks, three Common Sandpipers, 21 Turnstones,   two Black-headed Gulls, two Sandwich Terns, nine Collared Doves, seven Swifts, one Sand Martin, 21 Willow Warblers, 14 Goldfinches
