A scorching day of 28℃. A fledged brood of House Martins were busy wheeling around the Lighthouse in the morning but soon the heat had risen and things seemed to quieten down. A lone Risso's Dolphin was seen lingering off the West Coast, although conceivably there may have been more in deeper waters.
Sunset from Solfach (C) Greg Lee |
A chance check of Solfach after an evening swim turned up trumps with a nice selection of waders on the high tide including our first Green Sandpiper of the year (which flew off calling noisily over the Wetlands), 17 Common Sandpipers, six Redshanks and singles of Whimbrel and Curlew. A Storm Petrel session last night saw another 15 birds caught and ringed.
