It was a really calm day, cloudy in the morning and very warm and sunny in the afternoon. Four Common Dolphins and four Risso’s Dolphins were seen off the west coast during the day. Butterflies included nineteen Red Admirals, two Painted Ladies and a Peacock, and a Hummingbird Hawk-moth was still present at the Observatory. A Migrant Hawker was seen at the Lime Kiln.

At sea, 2,050 Manx Shearwaters were recorded, and 35 Shags were on Carreg Yr Honwy. Wader-wise, there were three Dunlins, eight Whimbrels, 13 Curlews, a Redshank and a Greenshank, along with three Common Sandpipers and two Turnstones. Gull numbers increased again, with 2,200 Herring Gulls, a Mediterranean Gull and 219 Kittiwakes, while four Sandwich Terns remained.

Passerine-wise, the day saw the first real arrival of Willow Warblers for the autumn, with 34 recorded along with two Chiffchaffs. Ringing at Cristin in the morning produced a number of breeding birds, including Wrens, Dunnocks and Robins, along with a juvenile Magpie

The moth trap saw a few nice captures, with Marbled Beauty being the first of the week, a Northern Eggar, and a good number of Dor Beetles and Sexton Beetles.
