A drop in the wind allowed some of our guests to depart first thing in the morning but the wind quickly picked up to a southerly wind at F5 and a sea state of three prevailed through the day. Visibility remained moderate, with showers arriving during the afternoon. The temperature only got up to 8°C today.
Grey Seal numbers were high, with 75 at Henllwyn, 98 at Solfach, and a total of 186 across the island!
Gannets totalled ten, Cormorants numbered four and Shags reached nine
Eight Shelducks were at the Narrows. Mallards totalled 17, including a female with 9 chicks at Nant. A single drake Gadwall was at Pwll Cain
A single immature male Sparrowhawk was at the Observatory. A female Merlin was at the South End, along with an adult female Peregrine.
Two Snipes were in the Wetlands. A Whimbrel was at the South End and a Redshank was at Henllwyn. Oystercatchers totalled 48 and Moorhens reached 5.
Two Swallows were recorded moving through the island. Meadow Pipits totalled 27 and Rock Pipits reached ten. Pied Wagtails numbered seven and seven ‘alba’ wagtails moved over.
Dunnocks reached seven, Stonechats totalled 11, Wheatears reached 13 and Blackbirds numbered six.
Blackcaps reached four, Chiffchaffs totalled 14 and only a single Willow Warbler was at Nant. Two Goldcrests were at Nant.
Chaffinches totalled three, Goldfinches reached 25 and Linnets reached 66. Five Siskins and two Crossbills flew over.
