We woke to a strong south‑westerly wind at F9, gusting F11, and a sea state of 7 dominated the day! Visibility remained moderate, with dry conditions until midday, followed by heavy showers, hail, and short sunny periods. The temperature didn’t get past 9°C.
Manx Shearwaters were moving with 75 south, Gannets reached ten. A single Cormorant was at the Narrows and Shags totalled six. Five Kittiwakes were at the South End. Guillemots reached 42, with 41 moving south at the South End, whilst Razorbills totalled 21, with 19 moving south at the South End.
Only one pair of Shelducks were recorded today, at Henllwyn. Mallards reached 14, with a female with one duckling at Pwll Gareth. The pair of Gadwall were again at Pwll Cain. A single male Sparrowhawk at Nant was the only raptor recorded.
A Ringed Plover was at Henllwyn. Two Whimbrels and four Curlews were recorded today, the Curlews were seen moving south at the North End. Oystercatchers totalled 113, with 95 at Henllwyn.
Meadow Pipits reached 38 and Rock Pipits totalled 12. Pied Wagtails numbered three across the South End and the Narrows and five ‘alba’ wagtails flew over the island.
A Robin was heard in Plas Withy and Dunnocks reached 11 across the island. Stonechats numbered nine, Wheatears reached ten and Blackbirds totalled ten.
Ezra found the first Sedge Warbler of the year, singing by Pwll Gareth with a handful of other warblers. Joel arrived in time to see it giving a short burst of song before it darted around the back of a gorse bush. A handful of other warblers were spread across the island with six Blackcaps, 28 Chiffchaffs, 16 Willow Warblers and three Goldcrest.
Choughs reached 26, with a flock of ten on the Narrows and eight above the mountain. Two Rooks were seen flying South over the Narrows and Two Ravens were over the Mountain.
A good day for finch movement with 142 Goldfinches and 42 Linnets seen either moving over the island or grounded. Seven Siskins were recorded flying over. A single Chaffinch was in the Wetlands.
