It was a warm and muggy day with banks of fog rolling in off the south, temporarily causing the South End to disappear completely on several occasions. Insects clearly saw the weather as a trigger to get busy, with flying ants emerging en masse across the island, attracting some large feeding flocks of gulls on the west coast.

It was another fairly quiet day for birds, but Willow Warbler numbers improved slightly to 25. Five Gannets, a Grey Heron, three Mallards, a Sparrowhawk, a Ringed Plover, 12 Dunlins, a Whimbrel, seven Curlews, 14 Redshanks, a Common Sandpiper, 20 Turnstones, a Black-headed Gull, 15 Kittiwakes, two Swifts, 32 Swallows, 15 House Martins, two Stonechats, five Wheatears, two Sedge Warblers, two Chiffchaffs, six Chaffinches and 40 Linnets formed the bulk of today's highlights.

Flying ant Friday.
