The weather in spring can be very unpredictable but today was lovely. The sun was out all day and the wind died down after lunch making it almost feel like summer.

Bird numbers are still relatively low for this time of year, although with a change in weather over the next week we are hoping for it to pick up. A fairly skulky Reed Warbler at nant was the first seen this year and the third recorded, it was thoroughly checked to rule out other confusing Acrocephalus species that could occur at this time. One count that is increasing by the day is Mallards with broods of small ducklings popping up everywhere, hopefully the gulls won’t take to many. Numbers for yesterday came in at 36 juveniles of 4 broods and 8 adults.

Other general numbers included one Grey Heron, two Ringed Plovers, ten Purple Sandpipers, eight Dunlins, one Bar-tailed Godwit in almost full summer plumage, 16 Whimbrels, two Little Owls, two Swifts, 23 Wheatears, seven Sedge Warblers, five Common Whitethroats and four Goldcrests.
