The weather today was notably colder with a chilling winds coming from the east really making every draft felt. Most time was spent getting all the necessary work done in preparation for the end of the year which is coming up fast for us now.

The most impressive numbers were, like yesterday, made up of Jackdaws which consisted of around 200 on the island and Starlings with 177 estimated in the fields. Finches were around but in much lower numbers, Chaffinches again the most abundant with 60 in total, just two Bramblings, 19 Siskins, four Redpolls and a single Greenfinch were heard and seen around or over the observatory. in the garden some apples proved very productive and every thrush in the garden was down having a go at them. the largest numbers came in the form of Blackbirds with 55 on the island an 40 from the garden. other thrushes included a single Mistle Thrush, 15 Redwings, six Song Thrushes, 13 Fieldfare and a single Ring Ouzel heard.

Other birds around the island included a single Reed Bunting, six Robins, four Skylarks and a single Lapwing on the narrows.
