The Glaucous Gull was seen again today, this time amongst the Oystercatchers on the Narrows sheltering from some fairly substantial gales from the South West. We've affectionately named the rather enigmatic gull Eric the Viking. Sea watching from the North & South of the island meant that the day was not a complete washout: two Fulmars, ten Manx Shearwaters and 16 Gannets were spotted amongst the choppy waves.

Waves Crashing at the South Coast

The wind was quite relentless, coupled with technical difficulties regarding the Observatory internet connection meant a rather slow day for the assistant warden team. We read books and learned about the history of Bardsey from the many books and pamphlets written over the years that can be found in the Observatory library. We even indulged in a nail-biting game of Rummikub generously donated to the Observatory by Sam's Nan Celia.
