Another sunny day with some slight westerly gusts, the usual warblers were in very low numbers today, but there were a few more Sedge Warblers around. The nets were opened in the Withies and Cristin, but it was very quiet and nets were closed in the Withies early on. The Cristin nets were mainly producing finches, but later in the morning, the first Reed Warbler of the year was caught along with a Siberian Chiffchaff which was a nice surprise.

Reed Warbler (left) and Sedge Warbler (right) represent the most common streaked and unstreaked Acrocephalus warblers found in the UK.

Wader numbers are beginning to build, many Dunlins and Whimbrels were present on Solfach at high tide. This is usually a good time of year to catch a small amount of waders at night, but unfortunately, the moon being so large has made this difficult.

During the day, Fiona was getting on with more gardening, further transforming the garden just in front of the Obs. We started rotavating some of the beds ready for planting today, and it's really starting to take shape.

Migrants today: seven Gannets, one Grey Heron, one Sparrowhawk, one Merlin, four Ringed Plovers, 26 Dunlins, two Bar-tailed Godwits, 52 Whimbrels, 10 Curlews, two Redshanks, two Common Sandpipers, 15 Turnstones, one Collared Dove, nine Sand Martins, 29 Swallows, four House Martins, two White Wagtails, seven Sedge Warblers, one Reed Warbler, five Blackcaps, one 'Siberian' Chiffchaff, two Greenfinches, two Siskins and six Lesser Redpolls.
