Monday 25 May 2015

Another calm day saw a light scattering of common migrants recorded, which included a Mistle Thrush, two Swifts, 115 Swallows, 73 House Martins, four Sedge Warblers, two Whitethroats, six Chiffchaffs, and one Spotted Flycatcher. A large proportion of the afternoon was spent counting seabirds around the East Side, and the resulting figures included the following: 1089 Razorbills, 692 Guillemots, 36 Puffins, 294 Kittiwakes, 62 Shags and seven Fulmars. At the same time, the first few seabirds of 2015 were ringed, including an adult Kittiwake, a Herring Gull chick, and also a brood of four Chough chicks.

A Chough brood of four chicks were ringed and fitted with colour rings

The south Peregrine pair have two chicks, which are not as yet quite big enough to ring
