Monday 12 July 2021

The day started foggy and cleared up in the afternoon to allow for a lovely sunset. Sam was out until the early morning ringing Manx Shearwaters with the guests. There were a few retraps including a bird that was first caught on 24 July 1990.

Whilst completing the July checks of the Manx Shearwater productivity burrows in the North West Fields a feeding flock of gulls and Manx Shearwater were seen of the West Coast. Around 40 Kittiwakes were seen feeding including a few grey headed immature birds and a single Black-headed Gull. A Skylark was also seen in the North West Fields.

At Nant the five juvenile Chiffchaffs were seen, which are the first fledglings of the year. Wader species remain similar with the remaining Bar-tailed Godwit, two Turnstones, two Dunlins, three Common Sandpipers, three Redshanks, a Whimbrel and 21 Curlews.

Birds today: one Grey Heron, two Dunlins, one Bar-tailed Godwit, one Whimbrel, 25 Curlews, three Redshanks, three Common Sandpipers, two Turnstones, one Black-headed Gull, one Skylark
