The low cloud and drizzle seems to have become a permanent fixture this week. A large flock of 32 Curlews was present on the South End first thing and a total of 34 Turnstones were found around the Narrows. Other species moving south include a Grasshopper Warbler, 14 Sedge Warblers, 14 Whitethroats, 42 Willow Warblers, two Spotted Flycatchers and a Redstart.
The bird of the day came when Megan, Stuart and Louis were down at Cafn having a cold swim. Stuart was scanning the sea when he picked up a large bird close in and flying like a shearwater. After seeing the yellow throat patch, breast band and spooned tail he was able to identify it as a Pomarine Skua!
The Little Owls have been very quiet this year. Birds have been seen on a few occasions in at least three territories, but no young have been seen or heard. A fresh pellet was found today at the bottom of the Green Lane proving that they are still present.
Birds today: eight Fulmars, 37 Gannets, one Grey Heron, one Sanderling, 16 Dunlins, one Whimbrel, 35 Curlews, five Redshanks, 34 Turnstones, one Pomarine Skua, one Mediterranean Gull, one Black-headed Gull, 20 Sandwich Terns, seven Common Terns, 13 Collared Doves, two Grey Wagtails, one Redstart, one Grasshopper Warbler, 14 Sedge Warblers, 14 Whitethroats, two Chiffchaff, 42 Willow Warblers, two Spotted Flycatchers,
