The day started off dry, but soon the heavens opened and the Island was struck with heavy rain and force seven southerly winds for most of the day.

Despite the weather there were a few birds around, with the highlight being a Swift which flew south over the South End first thing. There was also a Whimbrel and five Curlews feeding on the Narrows, and 12 Turnstones were on Solfach, and the Grey Heron remained around the Narrows.

The Observatory Staff took the opportunity of a quiet day from fieldwork to catch up on admin work, with a short break to ring the first Swallow chicks of the year in the courtyard at Plas!
