A stronger wind today around 30mph from the east giving a chill to the island and making birding not always easy at times. It was mostly overcast with some breaks of sun throughout the day.
The highlight of the day were two
Teals bombing around the wetlands landing on various pools, not a common bird here in the spring. Also, a
Jackdaw was around the paddocks, again not a common bird here in the spring, and an increase in
Whimbrel to three birds, and
White Wagtails to seven were more signs of spring movement.
Linnets increased to 72 birds, an expected increase for this time of year as more breeding birds come in, there were 15
Willow Warblers, eight
Chiffchaffs and nine
Blackcaps and a single
Redwing was on the narrows. Also present were 17
Wheatear, five
Stonechats, 6
Sand Martins moving through with three seen heading out to sea north, three
Sandwich Terns were another good sighting, eight
Curlews were in the bay and 35
Purple Sandpipers were seen on Carreg yr Honwy.

In the evening there were good numbers of
Manx Shearwaters passing off shore. A brief half an hour seawatch between 1900 and 1930hrs produced a good count of 440 birds along with a few
Gannets and
Kittiwakes.
