Breezy today with winds coming from the south-east, gusting at 30mph but there was very little cloud cover for most of the day. Today the Lodge welcomed its first guests of the season, a lovely party of four who are here to see the scenery and, of course, a few birds as well.

The Observatory team have been busy getting the accommodation ready before the arrival of the guests, which unfortunately means we were less busy getting out and collecting bird records. However, finches such as Linnets and Goldfinches have been moving through the island in good numbers in the last couple of days, along with many Blackcaps. Willow Warblers continue to feed amongst the conifers at the Plantation too.

Goldfinches are moving through Bardsey at the moment

Birds around today include: two Sand Martins, eight Swallows, 22 Meadow Pipits, 10 Rock Pipits, nine Pied Wagtails, two White Wagtails, three Stonechats, 18 Wheatears, one Song Thrush, one Collared Dove, eight Puffins, six Great Black-backed Gulls, one Whimbrel, five Curlews, 73 Oystercatchers, two Peregrines, one Kestrel, two Buzzards, one Sparrowhawk, 27 Gannets and a quick seawatch in the early evening produced 185 Manx Shearwaters.
