Today was quieter than the previous days have been, despite the weather being a consistent gentle southerly. Wheatears were fairly thin on the ground, as well as other migrants such as Blackcaps, Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs. However, there were Lesser Redpolls, Siskins and Goldfinches present at Cristin and at Nant all day.

'Greenland' Wheatear on the Narrows

Purple Sandpipers were present around Solfach in small numbers, with four today. Whimbrel numbers fell from yesterday but there were still some present around the island. There were also Ringed Plovers, Redshanks and Turnstones around the Narrows as well as the usual Oystercatchers which are still pairing up and many of which are acting territorially.

Choughs are now on eggs, here a male is regurgitating food for the incubating female after she has come from the nest site to meet him

The second Sandwich Tern of the year was feeding off Solfach in the mid-afternoon and could catch small fish at an impressive rate in the calm bay. A Kestrel was another species to add some variety to the day list too, seen over the lowlands in the morning.

Once again, due to the glorious clear skies, the sunset over the west coast was as nice as it has been all week. The thin clouds making the scene look rather like a watercolour painting.

Birds today: One Kestrel, one Merlin, three Ringed Plovers, four Purple Sandpipers, three Snipes, eight Whimbrels, one Curlew, three Redshanks, one Common Sandpiper, 13 Turnstones, one Sandwich Tern, two Sand Martins, five Swallows, three White Wagtails, 11 Wheatears, ten Blackcaps, five Chiffchaffs, five Willow Warblers, one Goldcrest, 13 Siskins, 19 Goldfinches and eight Lesser Redpolls.
