The wind picked up today which meant that a couple of the Shag broods we were hoping to ring today had to be missed (at least for now!). The wind was a consistent 25mph northerly, but given the time of year it wasn't too cold, and when sheltered from the breeze it was really quite hot.

As is inevitable at this time of year, the daily census yielded the usual suspects, singing Willow Warblers, Sedge Warblers and Chiffchaffs. But we had a nice surprise for the day list, and month list, come to that, in the form of a Lapwing on the narrows first thing in the morning. What's more, a Spotted Flycatcher made a very brief appearance in the obs garden in the early evening.

Manx Shearwater monitoring continued today, checking a few burrows for occupancy, and some Chough monitoring too, all of the successful pairs have fledged chicks at this point and family flocks are seen roaming the island, on the west side of the mountain, Solfach appears to be a favourite haunt.

Birds today: 40 Gannets, one Grey Heron, one Lapwing, one Dunlin, one Whimbrel, two Curlews, one Collared Dove, one Spotted Flycatcher, six Siskins and three Lesser Redpolls.
