The weather was nicer than forecasted today, there was a 15mph southwest breeze throughout the day, but far from the thick clouds that were meant to have set in overnight, we were treated to lovely blue skies throughout the morning and early afternoon.

This weather meant it was perfect for a Manx Shearwater chick walk, 15 joined Stuart as he conducted his productivity study of this year's sample burrows. Puffins and other island seabirds were seen from the top of Pen Cristin, and fortunately, several shearwater chicks were extracted from burrows and were weighed and measured.

Some Black-headed Gulls have started appearing lately, two more were recorded today which clearly indicates some early autumn passage, hopefully, numbers will generally continue to increase as the weeks roll on.

Our wader numbers have remained fairly consistent with Redshanks, Curlews and Whimbrel making up the passage numbers, but there was also a surprise Lapwing over the Narrows first thing in the morning which was a welcome addition to the day list. The Ringed Plovers are still on eggs, but they should be hatching very soon.

Birds today: three Gannets, one Lapwing, one Whimbrel, nine Curlews, three Redshanks, two Black-headed Gulls, two Collared Doves, 75 Starlings, two Siskins and three Lesser Redpolls.
