Another incredible day of bird migration on Bardsey. It continues to be overcast with a Northeasterly wind and this is bringing a lot of birds our way. An amazing 74 species were seen including the third Osprey of the year, a Wryneck, Barred Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, seven Pied Flycatchers and 49 Spotted Flycatchers.

Stuart woke up at seven and immediately saw five Willow Warblers, two Whitethroat and a Grasshopper Warbler in the Lighthouse Garden. After radioing Louis to make sure the nets were open at the Obs, Stuart continued to the South End where he counted an incredible 4000 Kittiwakes along with two Sandwich Terns and two Arctic Terns. To make things interesting there a few out of place birds including Spotted Flycatchers on the rocks on the South End and a Willow Warbler feeding in the seaweed on Solfach.

The mist nets continued to catch well throughout the day and were only closed briefly when Stuart took guests out to see the increasingly mature Manx Shearwater chicks. Steve spent most of the day at Nant and the nets were opened late in the afternoon where a Pied Flycatcher was ringed as well as two Spotted Flycatchers. Stuart also flushed a juvenile Barred Warbler into Nant Withy but unfortunately it avoided the nets.
